The medicinal plant comfrey has long been used in folk medicine, and modern studies have proven its effectiveness and safety for external use for aches, acute myalgia, muscle spasms, back ache, tingling sensations, rheumatism and sciatica. The efficacy and healing properties of comfrey root are primarily thanks to its most important ingredient – allantoin – which has such an ability to penetrate deep into the skin and into the tissues all the way to the bones, that it even speeds up bone healing after fracture. Other ingredients of comfrey – phenols, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid, amino acids, saponins, glycopeptides, lithospermic acid and oleanolinic acid – additionally contribute to reducing inflammation, relieving pain (analgesic effect), stimulate tissue regeneration and granulation. By penetrating deep into the tissue, comfrey acts on the very root of the problem, which is why it has a reputation as a plant with very effective pharmacodynamics.
In addition to comfrey, the cream contains capsicum, an extract of hot pepper, which has been proven to have great potential to reduce pain; it also plays a major role in treating a number of disorders, from skin diseases, through obesity to cancer. Its topical application stimulates microcirculation and directly and effectively acts on pain, relieves it, bringing a pleasant feeling of warmth even in the most painful disorders such as disc herniation.
The cream also contains menthol – which has a cooling effect and soothes pain; camphor – which produces cold and warm sensations , something that especially stimulates circulation in tissues; it also contains the essential oils of lavender, rosemary , mint and lemon, which additionally stimulate blood circulation, relieve pain, cramps and rheumatic aches. In addition to external application, essential oils also act as aromatherapy – by activating the limbic system they reduce aches and improve mood which is very important for the treatment of long painful episodes.
Rubbing comfrey cream into the painful area encourages local hyperemia and increases the temperature; thanks to this, the treated area relaxes, tissue metabolism improves and the aches and spasms subside.
NOTE:
Do not apply the cream to areas affected by dilated capillaries, which most often occur in the lower part of the lower legs. For such areas, COMFREY GEL – cool, with a cooling effect is recommended.
